ACG North America @ Otakuthon 09
(July 31, 2009 - August 2, 2009)
- Anime Convention in Montreal, QC.
Staffs of ACG NA were honored to receive media passes to attend Otakuthon 09 back in the end of July (July 31, 2009 - August 2, 2009). The event was held at Palais Des Congres De Montreal in the heart of downtown Montreal. To describe the event in the simplest words would be energetic, friendly, spacious, and well organized.
As soon as we arrived in the beautiful city we noticed the air smells sweeter and even traffic was better. Soon enough we arrived at Palais Des Congres De Montreal and the building just looks stunningly elegant. You really have to see it to believe (or google image it =D ). Once inside, there were signs everywhere in both languages (English and French) so we knew exactly where to go and everything was in good order. The staffs were friendly and patiently answered to our questions points us to wherever we wanted to go. Stepping inside the main exhibition hall entrance was like stepping into a whole new dimension. We were greeted by high ceilings and bright lighting and cosplayers were everywhere! The dealers and artists’ ally are combined into one but from what we heard it is twice as big as last year. The walk way between booths are wide enough for groups of people to stand in the middle and take photos and still leave room for you to walk by, but most importantly, room to breath! I think it is great that organizers decided to space things out a little compare to other conventions. It just feels one can breath easily and walk/look around more freely, and I think it leads to a happier atmosphere at conventions. The attendees/cosplayers were very friendly that when we ask for photos they always return with a nice pose and a big smile and for the whole duration there were laughters going on in the background. We also find the attendee’s participation level is quite high. Whenever organizers or fans decided to do stuff in the hall (such as Caramelldansen), many people will participate in it and turn it into an instant phenomenal. And it’s not just the young attendees that participated, but we also see parents in suits and ties got involved in the action with a smile on. The event organizers and panelists did a great job planning out programs that is suitable for a wide range of audiences so attendance was good and it keeps everyone entertained.
So in short it was an amazingly fun event. We didn’t speak French but it was no problem at all, the people and staffs there were kind enough and all signs were in both languages. In fact the staffs were in costumes as well which was a pleasant surprise. Seeing how much fun everyone hand, it is safe to say that we’ll gladly attend Otakuthon in year 2010.
